This beautiful medieval painting replica is based on the Crucifixion scene shown in Henry Jones, Sr.'s house in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. It is found among his collection of art inspired by the legend and lore of the Holy Grail. It shows Jesus Christ being crucified while Ecclessia, the Church, catches his life-saving blood in a chalice, a symbol of the Mass. Ecclessia rides a beast composed of a Winged Man, a Lion, a Bull and an Eagle symbolizing the four Evangelists, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. On the right is St. John comforting Our Lord's mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary, who He entrusted to this apostle before His death.
The frame is entirely hand made and a router was used to make the trim, no hardware store trim or particle board or pressed wood was used! The picture is made of Canvas "not paper", on an Oak back and Pine trim. The canvas is approx. 13 x 9 3/4" and the frame is 18" x 14 3/4" and 1.5" thick. The wood has been stained medium walnut stain. The picture is on canvas and has certain parts painted. There is also a wire hook on the back.
Crusader Leap of Faith Painting
Shown in Henry Jones' house for a few
moments in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, the original prop is based on
one of the trials faced by Indy at the end of the quest. The "leap from
the lion's head" is a test of one's faith. This painting depicts three
knights who failed the test, while one humble crusader reaches for the glowing
cup of Christ suspended above a deep abyss.
